About Ray Schuler, cuemaker

Ray SchulerRay Schuler, cuemaker, (1931-2002) grew up in Chicago and first saw the game of billiards when he was 14. By the time he was in his 20s he was averaging over .70 billiards per inning playing three-cushion billiards and he had run 60 balls playing straight pool. His interest in making cues grew from his love of those games.

Ray became friends with legendary Chicago cuemaker Herman Rambow and bought his first Rambow cue in 1949. When Rambow died in 1967 Ray began doing cue repairs for friends and players. He began making cues in the 1970s with a new type of joint. Techniques learned during his schooling as an engineer resulted in a cue that had exceptionally good playing characteristics.

His cues are widely used by top players worldwide including several of the recent inductees into the BCA Hall of Fame.

About these Schuler cues

Except as noted, each of the cues offered for sale on these pages was in the Ray Schuler inventory at the time of his death in 2002. All of them were produced prior to that time and none were sold or otherwise used except as noted below. Each cue carries his personal signature and the assurance that he had approved it for sale.

Several of the cues offered for sale here are one-of-a-kind prototypes or design studies that Ray Schuler used during his years as a cuemaker. Some of these are 20 years old or more. Some carry the Ray Schuler signature in green ink, which he used in the early years of his career. These cues may have seen limited play, perhaps by Ray Schuler himself, but they were never sold. Some may have been used in experiments or testing in the quality control process. Cues in this category may have minor dings or surface cracks, but nothing so serious as to prevent being used for regular play.

None of these cues can be replaced, and each is a piece of history never before offered to the general public. As these cues are sold, they will be removed from the website. The buyer will have what some say is one of the best performing cues ever produced and at the same time be a rare collectible with value that cannot be measured.

Terms of Sale
